This is a question I received the other day on our forum.

“… Dream, I’ve been thinking that after getting so much out of the convention for the past three years, it’s time to give something back. Other than pimping the Convention out to friends and “Community Members” (which I do relentlessly), is there anything else I can help out with?

I figure I’ll fly down a day or two early, and help you set up everything, figure out logistics, etc.; but is there anything I can do between now and July to help out?”

This is a question I’ve gotten in many different ways over the years. So many, and so consistently in fact, that I’ve decided to compile one comprehensive answer into a single location (you’re lookin at it).

But, things are never so simple with me, or this convention – and there is a lot more to this post than a simple …

“Hey guys, thanks for the support! Here’s the top ten ways you can help, ra ra ra!, have a great weekend!”

Hell no.

That’s ambiguous, stereotypical, and weak – the opposite of everything this convention stands for currently, and has always stood for, all the way since the very beginning in July of 2007.

This is about a lot more.

This is about continuing to spark a phenomenon four years in the making, by thousands of individuals, with a combined effort of tens of thousands of hours of brutally hard work, blood, sweat, and tears.

This is about young men (and women) coming together, that are fed up with the status quo they see – be it within themselves, the world around them, or both – and doing something about it.

That ‘something’ is the free exchange of ideas, online and especially in person. That’s why we have, and always will see fair ticket prices for our live events, and event footage that is actually free – lacking any charge, e-mail collection (mandatory or optional), or even external ads for that matter – a true rarity.

We’ve cut out the BS and red tape in favor of sending a message out – a message defined by each and every individual that attends our live events, or takes the time to watch, and really take what was said in the event footage or documentary series to heart.

…

This entire movement has been snowballing since the 2009 event in Orlando Florida – a threshold was broken, so to speak. Some have even said that The 21 Convention has outgrown me personally, and that I am merely playing catch up with something I can hardly begin to grasp.

Perhaps, but in any case, it’s once again time to break a threshold, shatter records, and take The 21 Convention to new heights. I swear to god, I can feel it in my bones, right down to the core – it’s happening – and here’s how we’re going to do it: together.

That’s right. I can’t do it alone. I never could, never have, and never will be able to. Even since the beginning, I could only provide the spark, initial push, and perhaps a little guidance – from there on out, a consensus among like minded individuals has always been the driving force behind this convention – the people reading this very post, participating online, attending live events, and thanking speakers for their time and effort taken to attend and speak at one of our events for little or no compensation.

And now, for those willing, I’m going to lay out how exactly one can help out, and give back to The 21 Convention.

I’m going to organize this into a few different sections. While they are prioritized from top to bottom, they are all important, so count nothing out! No matter how big or how small the help is, it makes a difference, and I appreciate it personally – along with every other person ever involved with The 21 Convention.

Let’s E-Mail Every News Agency on the Planet

I may be just a bit biased, but I think this convention has been worthy of major news coverage from the very beginning. It’s unique, and there is nothing else like it, anywhere. From world renowned dating coaches seen on The Tyra Banks Show and CNN, to best selling entrepreneurship, nutrition, and exercise authors – we have it all, comprehensively, like no one else ever has.

The fact that I was 18 when we started this, and that the event has continued on into it’s fourth year at a multi-national level – with all event footage free to the world – only compounds upon this fact (not to mention, we’re in the middle of releasing a full feature documentary series).

I mean seriously, am I deluding myself here, or is it about time Peter Murphy and I are on a major news network talking about The 21 Convention, and helping take it to new heights and new locations?

It’s news worthy to the ‘Nth’ degree, and it’s time that is manifested into some major press coverage.

And here’s how it’s done (and how you can help) – by positively bombarding every news agency we can get our hands on until they decide to cover The 21 Convention in some way, beginning with …

Part 1: National News Agencies

Step 1: E-mail the following list of addresses I have collected from around the web for major news outlets in the United States. This is done by highlighting the text, right clicking the selected area, and selecting “copy”. Then, in your e-mail software find the box that says BCC (or click “show BCC” as it sometimes doesn’t show by default, such as on Yahoo web mail), right click that blank are and select “paste”.

The e-mails are already formatted with ; in between them so they will send out with no problem, on any e-mail platform. I strongly recommend doing them in the groups I have separated out however, otherwise not all may be sent out (it depends on your e-mail platform, but better safe than sorry).

As for what to send out to national news agencies in the US, it’s best that the message is genuine, truthful, and a REAL request for The 21 Convention to be interviewed – it’s really that simple. I’ll provide a sample below for some ideas and structure, but please create your own! If these news agencies recieve the same message 400 times over, they will simply start deleting the messages. Again, ideas and highlights only (although that title is kinda catchy, and if the messages aren’t exact repeats it may prove to have a net positive effect on catching attention), and remember, what matters is that the message is a genuine request for us to be interviewed. The more open and honest the better.

Subject: News Tip-The 21 Convention Phenomenon

Message: Hi, my name’s John Doe. I’m a 21 year old college student studying XYZ at ABC University, and I’ve attended The 21 Convention in Orlando Florida two years in a row (I missed the first year, but I’ll be at the fourth convention in Stockholm, and maybe the fifth in Orlando).

In light of this, I wanted to let you guys know that I follow your news agency pretty closely, and I frequently wonder why The 21 Convention hasn’t been featured on your network yet. Both events I attended were super impressive, especially considering the age of the founder (he’s 21 now, four years into the convention).

The online aspect of The 21 Convention is also really cool since Anthony ‘Dream’ Johnson (the founder) – who was featured in the NY Times #1 best seller The Four Hour Work Week – releases all event footage totally free in streaming high definition. Man, there’s got to be over 50 hours of the stuff on the site, and it’s really popular as a result (the content is seriously awesome for young guys like myself).

In any case, I don’t know the guy too well personally, but I think you should seriously consider interviewing him about The 21 Convention, as it’s picking up a lot of steam, fast. Here’s an interview he did on a TV show a little while ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-zDLFKKFVY

I looked on their contact page. It sounds like you should contact this guy

Peter@The21Convention.com

Thanks for your time, maybe I’ll see you at the convention!

Step 2: Visit the links listed at the end of this post for “National News” to submit story ideas/news tips to major news agencies that did not have e-mail addresses listed. In the mean time, keep reading this post in chronological order, sending formal e-mails when time allows, and saving the extra links for later.

Part 2: Sweden (Mostly Stockholm) News Agencies

Please don’t skip this part if you are only attending The 21 Convention in Orlando. We definitely want the first convention in Europe to be a huge success!

Basically a repeat of the above, send a BCC (so it doesn’t appear that you are sending a mass e-mail) message to every news agency e-mail address I could get my hands on for Stockholm (and Sweden overall) – and no worries if you don’t speak and write Swedish, as virtually everyone in Sweden speaks great English.

A sample message for Swedish news agencies could go as follows.

Subject: International Men’s Success Convention Comes to Stockholm this June

Message: Hi, my name’s John Doe, and I’m a 20 year old college student at X University. I wanted to let you know I’m a big supporter of The 21 Convention, which is now coming to Stockholm Sweden for the first time ever.

I haven’t been to it yet, but I’ve watched dozens of hours of their event footage, and it seems like a super awesome convention (now in it’s fourth year). In Stockholm it appears they’re going to have 17 of the world’s top dating coaches, pick up artists, and motivational speakers to make for a kick ass 3 day mega event. I’m definitely going to be there along with a few of my friends.

In any case, I read your news agency pretty often, and I think it would be a really powerful story for you guys to cover. Some of the speakers even live in Stockholm, maybe a good idea for an interview beforehand?

From what I’ve read to, the founder, Anthony ‘Dream’ Johnson, will be in Stockholm for a while (he lives in the United States currently though). Early June I think.

Here’s a TV interview he did recently

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-zDLFKKFVY

Thanks, and btw I looked at their contact page. I’m thinking this is the guy to contact for press stuff.

Part 3: Orlando Florida News

Ok, if you’re only attending the Stockholm convention, don’t skip this part! The event has a lot of history in Orlando, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for a whole lot more growth.

Similar deal to the above two parts, only focused on local news for Orlando Florida (but again, make SURE you BCC these messages, otherwise they may get deleted before even being read).

A sample message could go as follows

Subject: Story Idea: UCF Student Hosts International Men’s Convention 4 Years in a Row

Message: Hi, my name’s John Doe and I’m a junior at UCF studying ABC topic. I follow your news program pretty closely, and the other day I was wondering why The 21 Convention hasn’t been seen on it yet. It’s an international men’s success convention that started in Orlando, is now in it’s fourth consecutive year, and is even expanding to Europe this June. It’s actually kind of surprising that it hasn’t been seen on your news agency yet considering how popular it is (they stream all, over 50 hours I think, of their event footage online for free, so it’s really really viral).

The founder is interesting too (a senior at UCF). He started hosting the convention at 18, and he’s even been featured in the NY Times #1 best seller, The Four Hour Work Week. He had an interview with a local TV show a little while ago too. Check it out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-zDLFKKFVY

Anyway, I’ll be attending this year for sure, and I think it would be a really good idea on your guys end to interview him about the convention. I took a look at their website and I think the guy you need to contact is

Peter@The21Convention.com

Hope to see you at the Orlando convention

Part 4: Word of Mouth is King

Before moving on to some other cool, actionable ways to help support The 21 Convention, I want to state what is probably obvious: talking about T21C is really, really, really helpful – with one caveat: the internet is great (and we’ll get to it more in a second), but I’m talking about real life conversation.

NOTHING travels as far and fast as word of mouth, period. The more genuine, the better, so I won’t try to spell out some thing or some way in which you should verbally tell people about the convention – I leave it to you the individual, and your personal judgment.

The one tid bit I will add however, is that The 21 Convention is not something anyone should be ashamed of talking about – the same way no one is ashamed of talking about their favorite book, such as The Way of the Superior Man.

Not to get all ‘woo woo’ on you guys, but that book is one expression and celebration of what it is to be a man – and this convention is simply a unique other (in an entirely different, and awesome format).

Moving on, what can be done on the internet?

Well, if what we are doing above is a “media bomb“, I’d like to get an online “word of mouth bomb” going with Facebook.

You can find The 21 Convention Official FaceBook Page here.

Obviously, if you’re not yet a fan, that’s step one – a step I highly recommend, “word of mouth bomb” aside because I constantly update it with everything T21C (there is simply too much to go on this website). Everything from photos and the latest videos, to the latest posts on The21Convention.com, interviews with me or about The 21 Convention, and even what past speakers are up to (such as Julian Foxx’s long promised video product that finally came out).

Step two would be to suggest the page to all of your friends* on Facebook. I suggest doing it once (most bang for the buck), but you are more than welcome to do it a few times over if you think you can get away with annoying your friends that much – but anything more than three times over is probably a waste of time, even if you don’t mind being annoying (I sure as hell don’t).

*Should you include women? It’s up to you of course, but my suggestion is: definitely. From my experience, women talk about The 21 Conventon MORE THAN GUYS. I’m not joking. Why? I’m not exactly sure, but a lot of girls have taken up interest in The 21 Convention, and talk about it relentlessly. Some may even attend the event in Orlando this year (I imagine for the exercise, nutrition, and business presentations). Perhaps most interesting though is when I meet these girls out at local bars and clubs in Orlando. Needless to say, I have a surprising amount of female Facebook stalkers in the Central Florida area. Can you say creepy? God the irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife on that one.

Now the question is, what’s the best way to go about this? Well you have two options.

A. Individually click all of your friends, one by one. Usually takes 3-5 minutes, depending on how many friends you have.

B. Click ‘suggest to friends’, let the window pop up, enter the following into your browser’s web address bar, and then hit enter.

javascript:elms=document.getElementById(‘friends’) .getElementsByTagName(‘li’);for(var fid in elms){if(typeof elms[fid] === ‘object’){fs.click(elms[fid]);}}

That will select all of your friends.

I don’t know much about it, other than that it works. Would I use it 10 times a day, 7 days a week like club promoters do? Probably not, but in the meantime it seems to work just fine used sparingly, and saves you a few minutes of time.

Either option works, but the second is a bit faster (use at your own risk).

Part 5: Other Ways to Support The 21 Convention

One, Stumble Upon. Sign up (it’s free), and ‘stumble’ as many pages on this site as you wish. It helps drive traffic to the site tremendously, costs nothing, and honestly, is a really cool and under appreciated service. Careful not to get sucked in though, Stumble Upon can be impressively addicting (play around with it and you’ll see what I mean).

Two, join The 21 Convention Community, and more importantly, participate! We have a really passionate online community, with convention speakers frequently answering questions. You won’t find anything else like it.

Three, perhaps the most obvious of all, attend our live events in Stockholm Sweden and Orlando Florida. There really isn’t a better way to demonstrate your support than by attending a convention LIVE and in person – which I should mention, is a completely different experience as compared to watching the free event footage online. Seriously, being there live … well there’s nothing else like it. What you see on camera is hardly a fraction of the experience and knowledge you walk away with. Ask any attendee who’s EVER been and they will confirm this 100,000%.

Speaking of attending live events, I should mention, if you attend both I formerly mentioned a special discount. I have since changed my mind, and have decided instead to do something way better (not previously announced).

If you attend both 2010 conventions, you will receive all 2009 event footage free on DVD.

There’s a lot more to be said, and dozens of pictures of the finished product to be shown in the next few days, but that’s some of the cover art none the less. There are a grand total of 20 discs for 2009 event footage – including a special bonus disc with a speech never before released online. In fact, the ONLY way to get that speech is by ordering the entire 2009 set (the bonus disc is not available for individual ordering like all other DVDs).

I hate to sound like a used car salesman, but this is literally hundreds of dollars worth of footage, on DVD, shipped to your home, no matter where you live, if you attend both conventions, completely free of charge (aside from the ticket prices of course). I think it’s the best win/win possible. Let me know your thoughts – and yes, it’s automatic upon signing up for both. Please allow 2-3 weeks to ship however =).

Four – well, sort of a continuation of the above – support your favorite speakers by purchasing their individual speech on DVD. In doing so you then own a permanent copy of the speech, bypass slow internet/loading times, a tiny computer screen – and in a sense, vote to have that convention speaker back at one of our events.

They will be available next week for order – in sets by year (2007, 2008, 2009) at a discount – and individually as well for about ~$20 a speech plus a few dollars for shipping. Stay tuned right here on The21Convention.com for details.

Finally, always feel free to donate to The 21 Convention directly. We aren’t a non-profit profit organization, but are not-just-for-profit in spirit, and always will be. To do so, scroll down to the bottom of The21Convention.com (any page) and click “Donate”. We’ve received about 300 USD over the years in donations. Not a massive amount, but every bit counts, and I appreciate it (even something as small as a dollar or two).

Better yet, funds like that go towards new productions like The Community Tapes documentary series. Pretty awesome? I like to think so =). Just wait till you guys see Episode 2.

In Closing

For those that have made it this far in this massive post, and taken time out of their day to support something they believe in, I thank and salute you. No bull $hit, without you guys … this convention, this movement simply wouldn’t be possible, and again, I thank you for your time and dedication. Hope to meet soon at one of our events, and in the meantime, if you have any questions, simply comment below and I’ll respond as soon as I am able.

-Anthony ‘Dream’ Johnson

President & CEO: The 21 Convention LLC

Ps- this probably doesn’t matter for most who will take the time to support The 21 Convention, but it should be said anyway – if your individual effort helps us land a major news interview/story, not only will we be eternally grateful, but will definitely find a way to compensate you, be it a lifetime pass to The 21 Convention, free DVDs out the wazoo, or otherwise.
