Is it Possible to be the Ideal Man?

  • Is it possible to live an ideal life?
  • Is it possible to achieve the best and highest possible of yourself in every regard?
  • Is your own happiness actually possible?

~~~
These are towering questions most individuals never even have the courage to ask themselves, let alone act upon — but the resounding trumpet of The 21 Convention is, yes, it is – and with The 21 Convention at your side, it is more possible than ever.
And what is The 21 Convention?
It is the creation, obsession, and result of the work of Anthony Dream Johnson – as seen in the #1 New York Times bestelling book, The 4-Hour Workweek – who founded the event in 2007 at the tender age of 18.
Five years and seven international events later, The 21 Convention contains the sum knowledge of over 50 of the world’s top speakers for men, from all walks and interests of life, and continues to attract dozens of elite speakers — and the world’s best and brightest attendees — to the tri-continental events held annually, spanning North America, Europe, (and now) Australia.
The 21 Convention has been dubbed,
A Panorama Event for Life on Earth as a Man
And it is.
From the best knowledge in exercise and nutrition, male/female relationships, self-actualization, and individualism – the four pillars of an ideal life and the ideal man are covered fully and completely at The 21 Convention: The Men’s Conference of the Century.
From the desk of Anthony Dream Johnson …
“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”
In an unspeakable struggle, the sum of my life at 23 years old has been a series of events and actions taken in the face of every odd, and against the advice of nearly every man who cared to voice his opinion — with or without my curiosity.
Every step, every event, every waking day, I have waged this struggle for everything right in the world, by and on my own honest judgement of the facts — and nothing more.
The pinnacle result has been a process of incremental achievement — a growing wildfire that was once only the spark of a single idea — expressed and experienced in the form of an event I created and call, The 21 Convention.
The construction of this event — in both it’s live form (in person), and concrete form (video recordings of the events) — has led me through multiple, consecutive points, to two fundamental questions.
I. What is the difference between the perfect and the ideal?
II. Is it possible to be the ideal man?
The second requires the first to be answered, and the answer I have concluded upon at the present time is this: the ideal requires a process of continual growth, of never ending improvement, and life itself.
The perfect requires the polar opposite: no growth is left in the given context or area of life, improvement is not possible; life in essence, is “not required”.
In summation, the ideal — any ideal — requires ‘life’, and the perfect (often) negates it. Boiled down even further, life is ideal, death is perfect. When you, or anything else is alive, it grows. When you, or anything else is dead, it ceases to grow.
Life>ideal>growth
Death>perfect>stagnation
Untangling the Perfect and the Ideal
The dichotomy of the perfect and the ideal leads to the answer of the second question, which, to put it in a single word, is yes it is possible to be the ideal man.
It is possible, because in this context — if you are alive, breathing, and have a heart beat — you necessarily have the potential to be the ideal man — a man in alignment with a path that continually leads to the best and highest vision of his own life, and of himself. The connection simply needs to be made between real, physical life, and the ideal alignment towards his highest potential, that underpins his every action and thought.
The real key here being that life is a journey — a developmental process — not an end point (the “end point” being, quite literally, death).
And “cliche” as this might sound in a TV show, this is actually a vivid reflection of reality.
But how do we go about doing that – about closing the gap between the real, the “in your face” challenges of reality we face every single day — in our psychology, in our health, in our relationships, in our entrepreneurial pursuits, and in our personal self-esteem — and what is the best and highest possible to us?
From my experience, this gap is closed by a process of self-actualization —  of actualizing (making real through action) my own best self and of integrating my own ideals, into reality. And through that process of brutally hard work, I enable myself to exercise the courage to face hard solutions to difficult problems — solutions that actually work, yet, run contrary to everything popular and “mainstream” in today’s society.
And when I say “everything”, I mean everything. With the exception proving the rule, every stone un-turned in today’s world reveals a disgusting mess of “quick fix” conventional wisdom that is at best, outright wrong – and at worst dangerous (if not immediately harmful) to the individual on the receiving end of that “good intention” information.
The “everything” is why I have dubbed The 21 Convention a “panorama event for life on earth as a man” — it has to be able to face and encompass every subject of importance if it is to enable men to achieve the best and highest, and to live the best and highest life possible to themselves.
But even this, a process of self-actualization — of brutally hard work — resulting in hard solutions to equally difficult problems — is only a single pillar of the four I have identified as fundamental to living an ideal life, and being the ideal man — on and by your own standards, and those standards alone.
Of achieving life, and the best and highest possible of yourself in every regard and at every turn.
While self-actualization is the foundation upon which the others rest, it is still the foundation, and without all four working in sync and in tandem, life will inevitably fall out of ideal alignment. You can run, but you can’t hide from reality. It will always catch up, and it is not to be cheated. So … what does it take to be the ideal man?
Rather than continue to talk in abstracts, I’ll get right down to it, answer the above question, and depict what I have identified as the four pillars of the ideal life and the ideal man, to the best of my ability, and discuss how these pillars are addressed, have been addressed, and will be addressed at the live event YOU plan on attending.
Enter pillar 1 of the ideal man, exercise and nutrition.
Pillar I of the Ideal Man : Exercise & Nutrition
Exercise and nutrition — which is a more accurate way of saying “health and fitness” — as a concept and pillar of the ideal man, are the avenue by which you express your-self in real, physical life — or for short, physically.
It is what you see,
  • at work in the gym
  • flexed in a mirror
  • measured on a weight scale
  • practiced at the dinner table
It is a core expression of you — your body, your machine, and your vehicle for taking on and facing the world — every, waking, day.
Put into a single sentence, exercise, nutrition, and health are …
“Self-esteem both expressed and experienced in the gym, in the mirror, on the scale, and at the dinner table”
And what is self-esteem?
According to Nathaniel Branden,”the father of self-esteem”, self-esteem can be defined in part as,
“… the experience of being competent to cope with the basic challenges of life and being worthy of happiness … the sum of self-confidence (a feeling of personal capacity) and self-respect (a feeling of personal worth)
Which leads us to the obvious question: do you have a reason to be confident in your body’s function and appearance? Is your body as strong as you know it can be, and if not, is it on the right track to approaching that fullest and highest potential?
Is your body as lean and fit as you know it can be, and if not, is it on the right track to approaching that ideal potential?
Are your workouts safe, efficient, and an effective use of your time?
Will they suit you over the course of a long, healthy lifetime, or will they inevitably leave you injured and unable to exercise?
Mark Sisson at T21C
Do your workouts fit what your body requires for growth with an evolutionary underpinning, or were they created out of thin air and arbitrary whim by a magazine editor and his deadline?
Is your diet based on evolutionary principles and filtered through the lens of modern medicine? Does it take the best from both, or does it completely ignore the former and rely on the worst of the latter?
Does it rely on facts, evidence, and critical thinking? Or does it rely on such things as,
  • conventional wisdom
  • “group” think/herd mentality
  • social and cultural “traditions”
  • peer pressure
Does your diet compensate for individual needs and challenges like acne, diabetes, obesity, or being a “hard gainer”?
Is the rest of your health attributed the time, attention, and value that it deserves for the betterment of your entire life?
Are you sleeping in the right ways, and getting adequate sleep to meet your health and performance goals? Do you understand how sleep, sunlight, and Vitamin D levels affect the rest of your body — especially muscle growth and the acceleration of fat loss?
Do you understand the real definitions of health, fitness, diet, and exercise, and how these words have been abused to the point of being stripped of all meaning in common use?
Do you understand why diseases like obesity, cancer, and heart disease are reaching epidemic levels — and how to save yourself from the same crippling fate?
 ~~~

Knowledge is not automatic. You are not born knowing the answers to the above questions — you have to think, research, make conclusions, and form your own answers on your own judgement of the available information.

Which is exactly what The 21 Convention provides — it provides the what, the why, and subsequently, the how to answering the call of the first pillar of the ideal man — exercise and nutrition.

Doug McGuff M.D. at T21C

The What is an answer to the basic question of what are you doing in the first place? In the case of this pillar, the knee-jerk response, if there is one at all, is typically something like “I’m working to get a six pack” or “I’m working out and eating right to get ripped”.

Of course, the real answer to this question that is only provided by the speakers of The 21 Convention is that you are improving your quality of life, and finding the competence (the knowledge) to face the challenge of shaping your body to it’s best and highest possible form.

Of carving your body to it’s leanest form, and building the greatest amount of muscle possible, in the fastest and safest manner possible — and maintaining that over an entire lifetime.

Of making yourself aware of the intricacies required of and for robust health — like sleep, sunlight, and intermittent fasting.

Desiring to get “ripped” is only a surface level derivative of the above — a subsequent effect of getting your health handled and under your direct control and not leaving it to “chance”, or whatever else comes your way.

The Why is in an answer to the basic question of why are you doing the what? In the case of exercise and nutrition, the surface level answer can vary from individual to individual.

  • “I’m developing this aspect of my life because I am ashamed of what I have let my body become.”
  • “I’m developing this aspect of my life because I know I am capable of much more and I am tired of not striving for that potential with everything I have.”

Fill in the blank.

Positive or negative on the surface, the right answer to this question — the why — is that life is good. Life is worth living. Your own happiness is both possible, achievable, and desirable all at the same time – it is a goal worth pursuing to the maximum of your ability and will.

This answer — that life is good — is an answer you will rarely find in today’s world, but it is an answer you will find in abundance at The 21 Convention. It is not always explicitly stated, but it is the answer I hold on the deepest level — and it is the answer I attract in the speakers of The 21 Convention as its architect and founder.

It is the answer that underpins every speech, of every speaker at, and only at, The 21 Convention.

 ~~~
Enter pillar 2 of the ideal man, man/woman relationships.
Pillar II of the Ideal Man : Male/Female Relationships
Male/female relationships — which is a more accurate way of saying “dating and relationships” — as a concept and pillar of the ideal man, are the avenue by which you express and experience your-self psychologically — express in your interactions with others, and experience in the form of psychological mirrors provided in your relationships with others.
~~~

To put “psychological mirrors” into a digestible context — ie, what the hell I mean by this — try viewing yourself in a mirror, especially your face. Easy huh? Now try viewing your face without a mirror. Good luck. You’ll at best get the tip of your nose or corner of your eyebrow.

Performing this simple act is very telling of just how valuable the mirrors others provide to us are. Without them, it is damn near impossible to observe — to see concretely  — ourselves psychologically. And if you value observing yourself physically, to what degree do you value seeing yourself psychologically?…

~~~
While specific in title, this pillar encompasses social skills, friendships, business and academic relationships, and above all, intimate/romantic relationships.
It is what you see,
  • in the bedroom
  • in your work environment
  • in academic settings
  • at social gatherings
  • in life long friendships
  • in short and long range intimate relationships
It is a core expression of you – of your view of the world, the opposite sex, and of your-self.
It is self-esteem experienced in the mirrors others provide by reflecting thoughts, values, and reciprocal actions back at you.
Put simply, male/female relationships, as one of the four pillars of the ideal man, is
“Self-esteem expressed in social interactions, and experienced in the psychological mirror of an intimate partner”
I say intimate partner, and not relationships in the general sense, because to be exact, psychological mirrors can be found in any sort of relationship, but none — not even the closest and most powerful of friendships — hold the greatest potential for depth and intensity, and the most consistent clarity.
That is reserved exclusively for intimate relationships — the only kind of relationship that can result in being naked both physically and psychologically with someone you deem worthy of seeing that naked self — and who you desire to see fully and completely naked in turn.
~~~

And what of self-esteem? What is self-esteem?

According to Nathaniel Branden,”the father of self-esteem”, self-esteem can be defined in part as,

“… the experience of being competent to cope with the basic challenges of life and being worthy of happiness … the sum of self-confidence (a feeling of personal capacity) and self-respect (a feeling of personal worth)

In the case of male/female relationships, this raises some obvious, and not so obvious questions.

The obvious: do you judge yourself competent in most social settings and interactions?  Do you posses the knowledge to be competent in those settings and situations?

Do you experience anxiety in school, at work, shopping for groceries, at the beach, at parties — and especially with women in any of these places?

Do you have a paralyzing fear of approaching physically attractive women at bars and clubs, or during the day at that grocery store, in that class, or at that bookstore you were visiting not long ago?

Do you experience extreme anxiety being sexual with women?

With progressing and leading the interaction forward? With trading phone numbers and contact information? With being direct, honest, and clear about your intentions?

Are you constantly concerned with what others think of you — friends and strangers alike — when you take the time to deliberately go out and meet women?

Do you posses honed social skills that will necessarily carry you though professional and academic relationships? Can you pickup on non-verbal communication in a critical confrontation/heated discussion?

Can you pickup on non-verbal cues women give you on a day to day basis in an attempt to express some interest in you?

“Dumb” question: are you passing up more great opportunities with women than you ever considered possible?

~~~
Steve Mayeda at T21C
The not-so-obvious: are you track to hone in on approaching your fullest and highest potential in forming and maintaining intimate relationships? In your day to day social interactions? In your family and friend relationships?
Do you understand the concept of psychological mirrors and how they can benefit you? Do you understand the role of self-esteem in romantic relationships?
Do you understand the importance of admiration in intimate relationships?
Do you understand the differences between being social, sexual, and seductive, and in turn, how to apply them to real life?
Do you understand the differences between sex (an act), seduction (a process), and sexuality (a sum result)?
Do you know how to actually be yourself? To stand up for your convictions, ideals, and standards in friend, intimate, and business relationships?
Do you know how, why, and when to assert emotional space in a given situation and set emotional boundaries in a given relationship?
Can you identify the signs of a toxic relationship, and do you have the tools necessary to end it peacefully and in the best way possible to both of you?
“Dumb” question: Have you developed a good relationship with the most important person in the world — yourself?
As I said before, knowledge is not automatic. You are not born knowing the answers to the above questions — you do not have de-facto “meet and date ideal women instincts” — you have a brain, and you have to think, research, make conclusions, and form your own answers on your own judgement of the available information as it relates to reality.
You have to figure out your own answers to your own challenges – and the men who speak at The 21 Convention on these topics and on this pillar are the men who can, will, and should be instrumental in making those goals and ideals, a part of reality.
Men like Jason Savage, Steve Mayeda, Adam Lyons, and Dj Fuji — are men that can be immensely helpful in developing this pillar of an ideal life — if you’re willing to listen, judge, and apply the knowledge relevant to your specific situation.
If, and only if you’re willing to take responsibility for this aspect of your life, that is.
Are you?
~~~

Enter pillar three of the ideal man, individualism.

Pillar III of the Ideal Man: Individualism

“The smallest minority in the world is the individual.”

Individualism is the all encompassing stance, philosophy, and outlook on the world, that holds individual man and his individual life as the supreme value — life itself is not just “good”, it is the good — the standard on which all other forms reside.

A fancy statement, worth exploring. Let’s do just that, by examining what this philosophy stands for, what it stands against, and how it is practiced in every day life.

~~~
Individualism stands for, rests on, and celebrates the principles of,
  • individual man’s supreme right to his own life
  • absolute personal liberty
  • your own happiness as your highest moral purpose
  • pride for your achievements
  • individual man as a heroic being
  • independence, autonomy, and self-reliance
Individualism demands a rejection the unearned. Of unearned shame, guilt, and “arrogance” – in being a man, in being an individual and proud of your strive for the highest possible to you — in being born.
Individualism holds man as his own greatest hero, stronger and more noble than any number of his brothers forcefully lumped together — which is simultaneously a rejection of collectivism.
Individualism holds man’s happiness as the proper, normal, and natural state of his existence — once achieved on his own effort, his own design, and by his own standards.
~~~

In a world that tells you to submit and surrender your ideals, your mind, and your will to arbitrary authority — in school, in work, in government, and even in family — how is individualism practiced and what does it look like?

For one, it takes the form of philosophy, of independent thought, of creativity, of art, and of investing in yourself — such as in learning and practicing the skills required for self-defense – which is to say, the rational defense of your life.

Perhaps, above all though, individualism takes shape in the practice of entrepreneurship.

An individual man with an individual mind, and the spark of a single idea — made real by the courage to act on it. Can anything on earth be more individualistic than this? Can anything be a greater catalyst for individuation of your-self from the rest of society?

Perhaps a better question to ask: can there be any nobler activity by man than productive work that challenges his mind to the fullest extent?
That challenges him to his highest limits?

Whether or not you currently own a business and desire to improve it’s function, or whether or not you even have the ambition to startyour own business, these are towering questions that cannot go unanswered, and questions that apply across a broad spectrum of life on earth, regardless of your career pursuits.

These are questions that should not have been ignored 10 years ago, should not be ignored 10 years from now, and most definitely should not be ignored now — when the time has never been more challenging, yet critical, for those with an entrepreneurial mindset and drive to take new actions, form new agreements, and start new businesses to take some friking action!

The facts of reality are this: the economy is “down”, unemployment continues to climb, businesses continue to fail — the strong weeding out the weak.

The best and most competent business owners will not only survive, they will thrive as competition that is less able, less effective, and less efficient, dies out.

The choice you have to make is: are you going to be in the minority that succeeds, or the majority that fails and endures unnecessary hardship?

If you want to succeed you are going to need the right information. Knowledge is not automatic. You are going to need to know why economies around the world are failing, why for the first time in American history student loan debt exceeds credit card debt, why it’s getting harder and harder to find a job, why costs to attend college are skyrocketing, why unemployment remains staggeringly high and is continuing to climb — and above all what needs to be done to correct course for these failures.

And you’re going to need the philosophical underpinnings to these ideas — because without them, you’ll be vulnerable to the next huckster selling you a slick idea that is ultimately not in your best interest. As such, you do not need to be open minded, you need to be active minded.

You need to be able to discern valid information from the invalid — the right from the wrong, the good from the bad.

You need individualism as the driving force of your life — the fuel to actualize your self…

Leading us to the next and final pillar of the ideal man, self-actualization.

Pillar IV of the Ideal Man: Self-Actualization

 What is self-actualization? Literally speaking, it is the process by which you make your-self real through action. And just what the hell does that mean?

It means and is the bone breaking process by which you bring your hopes, dreams, ambitions, goals, desires, ideas, and creative pursuits into the world — which is to say, into reality.

Further reduced: it is the process by which you bring your total person, or personality into the world — the total sum of who you are, physically, psychologically, and spiritually/philosophically.

Physically speaking is the easiest to address: just think of proper exercise and its effects on your body. What does it do? It causes you to grow.

Grow into what?

Into and towards what your body’s genetic potential allows for, in terms of muscular hypertrophy (size), metabolic/cardiovascular adaptations, endurance, and so on. You aren’t just “growing” towards some undefined and meaningless point, you are literally becoming more of yourself.

Exercise, as an action, brings you closer towards what is your highest potential — and not a single inch further.

And in case you haven’t been in a gym lately, this is hard work, and often painful (although hopefully safe) to a significant, and sometimes even dramatic degree.

That’s right, self-actualization is brutally hard work – but does it apply elsewhere?

Indeed, there may be no greater example and depiction for our purposes that it does than in the world renowned anime series Dragonball Z, and specifically in the lead character, Goku.

Contrary to popular belief, Goku is not a character that “changes” throughout the nearly 300 episode series — he is a character and depiction of the ideal man that remains absolutely constant in character.

What he does do though, is grow.

He grows bigger, stronger, faster, and more powerful physically — and in tandem, and by necessity, he matures psychologically – not being able to grow physically any further without expanding and increasing the strength of his mind. In fact, a constant theme in the series is that his body is consistently unable to grow fast enough with his mind.

His greatest leaps forward are then only made by giant steps forward in personal transformation (as he is seen doing in the picture to the above left) — that requires him to reach further and further into the depths of his greatest potential, well beyond what other characters believed to be possible.

It is no coincidence that Goku’s character was only able to achieve these transformations as he matured into an adult — and the other characters, including his sons, were able to do so at a faster rate. His transformations were self-made and had to be completely self-generated — theirs were in his foot steps and by his lead.

Similarly, speakers of The 21 Convention typically and consistently have an inflexible commitment, not to changing core aspects of who they are, but of continual self-growth — with action itself declared the key by a shockingly wide range of speakers .

~~~
I call self-actualization the fourth and foundational pillar because I am convinced it is the primary and necessary ingredient for the previous three to work and to catalyze. Without deliberate, conscious, intentional, intense, and purposeful action — aimed dead center on becoming more of who you already are — you do not have a chance at achieving the best and highest of yourself.
  • Of becoming the ideal man, by your own standards, on your own effort, and on your own judgement of the facts.
  • Of living and achieving an ideal life.
To put it bluntly, The 21 Convention is not only a beacon for this phenomenon in man — it is the only gathering on earth where it is found in such abundance, and in such a concentration, in the speakers, and the attendees alike.
It is a rallying point for the rational man, and the rational in man, and it is available no where else in the entire world to experience than in the locations I choose to host the events.
Of course, if you’re reading this, you are in luck, because there is an event coming up in Austin, Texas.
While other events have forgettable speakers, offer temporary friends, and shallow interests, I have an experience that will change the course of your entire life. I have a gathering of the best minds in the world, that when brought together under The 21 Convention banner, have the ability to produce such a catalyst in the sum of your life, that you might just set yourself on a path that leads to the best and highest possible of yourself.
  • I offer fellow attendees that can and will likely end up being men you keep in contact with the rest of your life.
  • I address the greatest interest of all through The 21 Convention – the achievement of your own life.
~~~

What I have discussed with you here is just the tip of the iceberg.

Now ask yourself again, is it possible to live an ideal life?

Is it possible to be the best and highest possible version of yourself, and to continually strive higher and higher?

What would your life look like if you were the ideal man by your own standards?

  • Would you be strong, lean, and healthy?
  • Would you have the options you want with the women you want?
  • Would you be the master of your actions and free from emotional responses like approach anxiety?
  • Would you be fully and absolutely committed to continual self-growth?
  • Would you consistently take the steps necessary to achieve your dreams?
  • Would you win your battles in school and work?
  • Would you be running that business “everyone” said was a “stupid” idea?
  • Would you be succeeding where others fail?
  • Would you be financially independent and debt-free?
  • Would you know what you value and be fully willing to fight for it?

Become the Ideal Man at The 21 Convention

The tools to achieve this are far and few … and the best knowledge in the world is under fire from a sea of conventional wisdom, mainstream ignorance, and the blind inertia of the status-quo in every subject of importance.

But The 21 Convention stands tall above this bull $hit and delivers the best experience, speakers, knowledge, and fellow attendees in the world.

The 21 Convention is a three day mega event packed with hours upon hours of pure content, plus nightly adventures to bars and clubs with other attendees and many of the speakers, meeting women live and “in the field”.

Brimming with behind the scenes interaction, the opportunity to form new friend and business relationships,  and exclusive, life changing private workshops held by the speakers, The 21 Convention is your trump card for taking on the world — and winning.
