“I Thought It Was More Than a Pickup Convention?” — It Is

At this point in my life, I find myself, and The 21 Convention, at the center and focal point, of a lot of different subjects, and groups of people interested in specific subjects.

With Mark Sisson The 21 Convention caught the eyeballs of the paleo community, with Doug McGuff, Drew Baye, and Bill DeSimone, The 21 Convention has caught the eye of the high intensity training community, and as the track record has shown, just about every dating, seduction, attraction, and relationship coach or mentor worth his salt, has spoken at The 21 Convention.

From the world’s #1 pickup artist Adam Lyons, to the CEO of Pua Training Richard La Ruina, to the independent lifestyle coaches Dj Fuji and Steve Mayeda, to real life dating and seduction coaches like Rob Judge and Jason Savage. — and even the “unknowns” with incredible knowledge to share like Dejan and Tim the Right Hand Man — if they have something excellent to share, I give it my all to find them, and drag them to the event kicking and screaming (well, typically they don’t kick and scream, but you get the point).

This unusual diversity leaves a lot of people wondering “what the hell is The 21 Convention?”, which I think results in an instantaneous label more often than not.

  • “Oh, it’s a pickup convention”.
  • “Oh, it’s a pickup convention turning into a health and fitness convention.”
  • “Oh, it’s a pickup convention with a few sprinkles of XYZ in it.”

Very rarely I think, do people want to roll with the titles I give it.

  • “The World’s #1 Men’s Convention”
  • ‘The World’s Leading Men’s Success Convention”
  • The Men’s Conference of the Century

I think this is because these are new phrases I am creating — phrases and ideas that have not existed previously — yet a few knew that they could. Notice, there is no other consistently held men’s conference in the world. There are kinda a few others that teeter on a true men’s conference, but none have been held to any long term consistency, other than, The 21 Convention, nor have any incorporated so many topics into the event with high profile, and shall we say, awesome speakers.

In any case, a comment was made today on The 21 Convention Lounge. This quote which is below, helped me realize something.

Heard about the event for about a year now, great resorce of imformation, really enjoying the progression of the convention. the introduction of the nutrition side has opened up a huge intrest for me which feels like it could take an important roll in my future… Obviously the game side is where it has come from but i’ve enjoyed the evolution of content alot more of late. I think a confirmed list of speakers is really important fairly early on, the fact its coming London is great, but as the majority of speakers seem to be attraction based it would be alot of money for an area i feel satisfied in for now.

I’ll keep on the pulse of whats going on and when it encompases enough of other areas i can see my self as an atendee.

(He is correct in his assertion that at face value, the 2011 London speaking roster primarily consists of dating and attraction coaches, no matter what anyone wants to call them).

What this comment helped me realize was this though — I have done a not-so-fantastic job linking the speakers together for viewers coming in from specific arenas and looking for specific information.

What’s more, this is especially important for an event like The 21 Convention, that is absolutely unique in the types of speakers it draws, and the range of topics covered.

Really, where else in the world do you see a medical doctor and Adam Lyons speaking side by side? No where. Not even close. This is literally unheard of — and Doug is not just any MD, he’s one of the best in the world by my estimation, in regards to his understanding of exercise, health, nutrition, and how they all come together in the human body.

His speech I think speaks louder than I can in writing, so go have a look if you haven’t yet (unlikely).

Anyway, that comment left on the lounge today caused me to realize that people coming in from specific subjects, might often not connect the dots between the speakers, and between the speakers and The 21 Convention in and of itself.

Speaker A > Speaker B > Speaker C >> All Speakers >>> The 21 Convention

In this sense, I think most people see a collage of a lot of different topics — and that’s it. But that’s not the real, incredibly powerful aspect behind T21C.

The true power is that the speakers are all “singin the same tune”. This is an American expression, in this context, for individuals sharing ideas, while different in form (the how), fundamentally and foundationally the same (the what).

Notice Dj Fuji gives a talk on the “core fundamentals” of game? Notice that Mark Sisson, Doug McGuff, Drew Baye, and Bill DeSimone are preaching almost the diametric opposite of what their peers and competitors preach, yet are all striving for something positive?

Notice how Rob Judge talks about “the ideal”, and Jason Savage about the “sweet spot”?

The reality is, Drew Baye, the world’s foremost expert on high intensity strength training, is talking about the exact same thing seduction coach Jason Savage is — the ideal.

And what is an ideal? Is it perfection?

No. And try to ignore how “woo woo” this sounds — an ideal is a dream that has entered physical reality.

It’s a dream made real — actualized.

Mark Sisson’s “primal diet” is not perfect — that’s part of why he blogs every day. He is constantly looking to further develop, to grow his ideas closer and closer to their best and highest possible within the course of his lifetime — their ideal.

Perfection assumes no growth is left to any one thing — like when you’re dead. This is why Doug McGuff is fond of the quote “the perfect is the destroyer of the good”.

The “good” is the ideal that he seeks in exercise, nutritional, and medical science — every day, in his training facilities, and I assume, to the extent possible in the hospital as an emergency room physician.

So gentlemen, while this topic is better suited for a speech (hint hint), and needs to be expanded upon further, I felt compelled to make it abundantly clear tonight that the about page isn’t there for show — I’m dead serious.

It’s purpose is to surface and restore the ideal in man — every man.

In application, it is a gathering of the best and brightest men, of all ages, who seek to succeed where others fail, and against all odds, whatever their endeavor may be.

Abundantly clear, because while the London convention may look a little, shall we say, lopsided towards success with women — in your approach, in your relationships, and in your own psychology for interacting with women, on every level — even that is only the face of a much deeper event and speaking lineup.

The speakers I find, no matter their field of expertise or chosen subject, are all driving at the same thing — the ideal that is possible to them, and to you — to every man.

And every year that passes this becomes more, and more, and more clear. London will be no exception, and Orlando is going to be fucking epic this year.

I’ll end this post with 2 quotes. One from a future attendee, and the second from my favorite book.

The fact that you are committed to excellence in being a complete human being is really rare these days. I have a lot of friends, but very few of them are committed to excellence in their life. Very few of them seek to become more than what they are. Almost none strive to be the best they can be- they settle for mediocrity and what the system tells them. It’s so sad. This is why I believe in you and the The 21 Convention. Men need to be shown a better way. I think the event, regardless of the speakers, is great for the simple fact that you’re going to have men gathering together who share that common goal of becoming the best they can be.
