..I think you may have gone a wee bit overboard in your disparagement of top 10 lists, lol

I don't see a problem with lists in general, but I think the issue is you shouldn't be blindly following someone else's; have your own list. I actually think it's quite crucial to keep tabs on who you think you can best learn from, and who could provide the most benefit for *you*. this is an industry overrun with quacks and charlatans after all. The top 10 lists are a good place, if not the best place to start, next to scouring product reviews and forum posts. just remember there was motive in creating them. Once you find someone you truly feel is legit, I recommend finding out what other instructors they respect or associate themselves with, checking their blogroll on their blogs for instance.

Dream:
"...to think one person is capable of something another is not … is truly laughable.

These lists say exactly that."

I don't think that's what the lists infer. Remember the whole point of all of this; these lists aren't about rating who we want to have coffee with and invite to our birthday party, It's about who we want to *learn* from. It's judging them as a professional, not a person. I don't think you'll be able to sit here and say that there are not people who are more or less capable in their profession than others. THAT'S what the lists are for, even if they are biased. Use them as a starting point. Create your own.

Must have mis read something, I have not written a top ten. It is unlikely that I ever will (a serious one anyway).

Appreciate the kinds words man, especially the neutral ground for discussion (although I prefer "independent" over neutral, but that's semantics).

Just to hit along something that DJ fuji said. If I hadn't seen a top 10 list, i wouldn't have known who Adam Lyons was, I wouldn't have scoured the net for videos featuring him, I wouldn't have found The 21convention.

Whilst I agree with most of what is written in the article I must admit. Without Thundercat's top 10 list I would have been much worse off.

Mannik

P.S. I looked through your whole article and I still can't find the link to your top ten. Did you forget to add it or something?
