It’s Official: Full Length Documentary is in Production

The image above is a high def video still from a demo clip we released to speakers not long ago. What was it a demo clip for?

An internal documentary we are filming- you heard right, it’s happening.

The documentary is something I’ve had in the back of my mind for some time now, but only recently did it become feasible financially (this is where I’m devoting most of the profit from 2009 to, alongside debt from the budgeting hiccup in 2008).

It’s been pretty exciting so far, brainstorming exactly how we want it to flow, who will be in it (looks like Fuji fit the bill huh? ha), how long it will be, release and distribution details…

And actually beginning filming of it, of course- with none other than the now infamous Dj Fuji (who currently holds the most popular speech ever at T21C).

Fuji had just gotten done with his month long tour around the country coaching and speaking for free at various lairs, and was on his way out of the country to Colombia for a short vacation. Lucky for us, his schedule included a 3 hour lay over at the Orlando Airport.

We contacted them, but as it turned out we ended up going “guerrilla” to film it (long story short, airports are really  uptight about any and all filming in them, oh well!).

It came out really well- a great head start to possibly the largest project I have ever undertaken. In total we interviewed Fuji for over an hour, and got a LOT of great bits from him. A true independent thinker and innovator.

As it stands we’ll only be using short segments of all interviews, but I someday hope to release the interview separately and individually, in full- since I expect all of them to really kick ass on their own like Fuji’s.

Regarding the “rest” of the documentary, we are working on it, hard.

Expect it to flow like a full feature “60 minute style” documentary- except it will probably be about 30-40 minutes in length.

We are also planning on releasing it in segments on YouTube- so sort of like episodes within one larger episode.

Ideally, they will make sense both on their own (to someone unfamiliar with the topics discussed), as well as part of a larger whole- especially when combined into one large video (if we choose to go that route in addition to the segments).

As for the “content”, I can only reveal so much info, but, I believe most people will be really supportive of what we’re trying to do, as well as shocked at the production that goes into this- a level never before seen in “the community”, not unlike the HD videos here on the site were when they released.

“Unparalled” as our friend Tylenol Rabbit says ;)

Specifically, it will flow from  “a” to “b”, and not be some jumbled mess as I’ve seen in other productions.

An example would be history of the community, some history about me personally (as it relates to “the community”), and then how those ideas intertwine and influence me to create The 21 Convention. Sounds simple because it is, but I think you guys will agree that the final time line is something truly phenomenal.

I want to reveal more than that, but I think doing so would spoil the fun =).

As for goals of the documentary, there are 2 big ones that are driving me (among others).

One is for it to be an introduction to something awesome, rather than an introduction to something “secret and taboo”- a current stigma of the community. I believe this is something that needs to be shed from the community, in order for it to evolve and continue making forward progress as a whole.

The second is for people to understand exactly what has happened over the past 4 years with The 21 Convention.

So many people are finding out about it just now, yet it’s history is rich and damn exciting at times. I feel compelled to share that, and think it should be recorded so as not to be forgotten.

As for a “release date”….hard to say. Filming speakers located around the country is a bit difficult at times, but, we’ll find a way. I will say though, that this WILL release in 2009. In fact maybe even before December, but, I won’t assume too much.

Dealing with as much video as I have in the past, I know these things take time.

Finally, if you’d like to stay up to speed on the documentary I’ll be journaling about it here on the free forum. Major announcements will still happen here on the main site, but if you’re curious about smaller ones check in there.

Rock on

ps- the one speaker we want to film but may have trouble with is Manwhore. If you live in California, are interested in being a part of this, and own a professional camera- please contact me at Dream at The21convention.com. The help would be greatly appreciated!
